Previously
we rallied a 1986 Subaru Leone RX Turbo 4WD. We felt we achieved a lot
and gained a lot of experience both in the racing/competition and in pit
crew teamwork. However I feel we pushed the car to its limits.
We
then purchased
a 1989 Subaru Legacy RS-RA. It is a purpose built car, and was built to
take advantage of the pre 92 4WD class in the Top Half Rally Series.
The
engine block is a EJ20 with a Possum Bourne built Group A turbo charger
and specifically designed and uprated inter-cooler. It all features the
usual Subaru "Boxer" quad cam, sixteen valve fuel injected set
up. The engine management is taken care of by a Link fully programmable
computer, with the addition of an "Anti-Lag" system.
Gearbox
is a 5 speed WRX STi close ratio with STi LSD and 20kg centre differential.
The rear differential is also a STi LSD. This allows the car to driven
aggressively through corners, something that is both spectacular, and
faster with the setup.
The
suspension is a custom built Drummond Motorsport Suspension (DMS) imported
from Australia. It is fully height and rebound adjustable. It also had
fully customisable castor and camber.
We
ran 15" Speedline alloy wheels for both Tarmac and Gravel events
using Falken tyres.

The
car is now owned by Simon Bell at Redhills
