Hi All
The Performance
Finance & Leasing /Turner Motorsport team of Dylan Turner and
Sara Warrington had a good event in Invercargill this weekend.
The weekend
started out well. With the problems from Otago fixed on Friday night
(a big thanks to Kayne Barrie and his team / Dale Perry and his
team from Rallydrive
NZ for there help) and final suspension changes completed on
Saturday morning at Beaurepaires, the car turned up to the pre-event
checking ready to tackle the 10 stages on Sunday.
Sunday turned
out to be quite wild and windy for the teams. With snow, hail and
heavy rain, the stages were going to be a real handful to drive.
"Stage
one was covered in snow and was quite amazing to drive on. The grip
was hard to judge, and on the third corner in we mis-judged the
braking and flew through the ditch on the outside of the corner
and finished up well off the road. I hooked reverse, and we were
lucky to get back on and continue.
"That off
must have dislodged the fire extinguisher under my seat, as later
in the stage it came out of it's bracket, and set itself off. It
must have looked quite funny from the outside, but on the inside
Sara and I were struggling for breath, so we slowed and opened the
doors to air the car and lost a fair amount of time while it cleared",
explained Turner.
At the first
service the team cleaned the extinguisher powder from the inside
of the car and tightened a loose bolt on the lower front right suspension
arm.
The rest of
the day went very well for the team with a 7th overall stage time
in stage 2. The team reached the finished in 12th o/a, 5th in Group
N and 2nd NZRC rookie.
"We are
happy with our finish. We worked hard on the car all weekend to
improve it, and by the end of the rally, we were feeling really
comfortable with the suspension settings and the way the car was
handling.
"I would
like to thank my team of Bill Turner, Ian Tegg, Gary Capper, Sandy
Bansal and Simon Bell, as they put in a huge effort in such terrible
conditions. Also a huge thanks to Sara, as she had to endure getting
out of the car in the weather at each time control and her fantastic
job on the notes over the days stages.
"On behalf
of Sean Gray and myself, we would like to thank Gary from Gary
Capper Performance (Ph 09-238 006) for taking time out to come
to Invercargill to tune both our cars before the event and at each
service. He made a real difference to Sean's car, and it was great
to have him there to help out over the weekend," said Turner.
Yesterday (Monday)
the Performance Finance & Leasing /Turner Motorsport team joined
the Atom Sport / Tillys Bar team to take the staff and management
from Tilly's Bar out for a few laps around Teretonga to say thanks
for their support over the rally.
The next event
for the team is Rally
Rotorua on the 9-11th July 2004.
The team would
like to thank the our sponsors for the 2004 Parker-ENZED New Zealand
Rally Championship, Performance Finance and Leasing, LJ Hooker Manurewa,
AB Panel and Paint, Kempy's Bitsa Mitsi, and Chiropractic and Sport."
Til next time.
