Hi All
The Performance
Finance & Leasing /Turner Motorsport team of Dylan Turner and
Sara Warrington had a good day out at the Bayswater Vehicles Rally
of Hawkes Bay.
Saturday dawned
with persistent showers as the cars left Napier in the early hours
of the morning to tackle the 7 highly demanding stages before the
return back to Napier for the finish.
Stage One was
to be a lucky escape for the crew. On the second to last corner,
a slowly deflating right front tyre caused the car to understeer
off the road and hit the front right heavily. There was minimal
damage, but the oil cooler had been bent, so it was a nervous tour
back to the first service to have it checked.
"We were
really lucky. It turns out the valve was leaking slowly, the tyre
had deflated and we were just passengers as it moved off the line
and into the ditch on the outside of the corner," explains
Turner.
Stage two was
a highlight of the rally for the crew, with a 10th equal time and
4th in class.
"Everything
went really well on stage two, our notes from recce were spot on
and the car's suspension was even better after we had softened it
at first service," said Turner.
The rest of
the day was a little bit of a let down for the team. After being
14th o/a , 6th in class and 30secs behind 10th, Dylan and Sara made
a decision to have a real go at stage 3.
"About
3km through stage 3 the car developed a intermittent mis-fire which
made it difficult to really push in the faster sections, as the
car was down on horsepower," explains Turner.
At the next
service the plugs and coils were changed. This only slightly improved
the mis-fire and the team ended the day 17th o/a, 9th in Group N.
"I think
the suspension changes have made a real difference to the cornering
of the car, it felt like it was on rails even in the really slippery
sections of some of the stages. We were setting respectable times
even with the car missing, so there is a real positive we can take
out of this event, and start planning for Nelson in a few weeks
time."
"Both Sara
and I would like to thank our service crew of Bill, Ian, Blair,
Sandy and Simon for the effort they put into the car at each service,
and for having to spend all day in the rain while we were out having
fun on the stages".
The next event
for the Performance Finance & Leasing /Turner Motorsport Evo
5 is the Mincorp & Total Rally of Nelson on the 29th August
2004.
The team would
like to thank our sponsors for the 2004 Parker-ENZED New Zealand
Rally Championship, Performance Finance and Leasing, LJ Hooker Manurewa,
AB Panel and Paint, Kempy's Bitsa Mitsi, Dunlop and Chiropractic
and Sport.
Til next time.
