Wow what a weekend!! Wet n Wild, 76 cars ready for the first rally of the top half series. Luckily we were seeded 13. (unlucky for some!!)

Stage 1 - 15.98 km

Wet very thick gravel. We struggled a bit at first, but got into the groove from about 2 kms in. Our tyres (Yoko's 205,15 softs) were a little wide, 185 or 195 would have been better as a narrow tyre is better in thick gravel. Nice stage tricky start down hill. Set 13th quickest time.

Stage 2 - 10 km

Little more open and flowing, still heavy gravel but set a better time of 10th quickest.

Stage 3 - 5.45km

Saras notes were wrongly numbered SS3 (special stage 3) was listed as SS0 and we didn't click until the service break, not Sara's fault but our time was down on our first two stages. 19th Overall.

Service Area

Lowered the rear ride height - 20mm

Stage 4 - 30 km

This was the one I wanted to charge hard on. Still raining but only showers about 15 km in we slid wide into a bank on the drivers side. Stopped and reversed back on to the road but we had broken a CV on the passengers side front. Work that out????? Three wheel drive ain't too much fun, nearly spun out half a dozen times. Lost about 2 mins all up.

Stage 5 - 11.00 km

Still three wheel drive, so we lost another 40 seconds.

Service Area

Fixed problem but left the service area 9 minutes late incurring a 1.30 seconds late penality.

Stages 6, 7 and 8

Tried to catch up in stage 6, 7 and 8. Small crash in the last stage due to a pace note error (Not Saras fault!!!) we landed on top of a farmers fence at about 140km did a little damage but we limped to the finish. A great performance at the beginning of the day, 8th overall and 3rd in class, before the problems we had in Stage 4, we thankfully finished our day in 26th overall and 6th in class.

All and all a great day and not a bad result considering all the bad luck!

Taranaki Preview:

Saturday 20th April 2002

The countries best tarmac rally. 202 km of Special stage. Very twisty, very fas,t 136 cars, wow! We are 18th and first in our class. So that is a big complement. Watch this spot and if you are in New Plymouth come and watch. Click here for more info.
