Hi All
The Performance
Finance & Leasing /Turner Motorsport team of Dylan Turner and
Sara Warrington finished The Rally of the North 4th o/a to finish
2004 and the last rally in the Lancer EVO V with a fantastic result.
The day started
out wet from overnight rain and stage one was very slippery from
the outset. On the third corner the car dislodged a stick or rock
and it wedged itself between the strut and the tyre causing a vibration
and damage to the tyre. With about 5 kms to go to the end of the
stage it punctured the tyre, causing the car to handle erratically
and lost the team some time.
It was then
off to a quick service to replace the tyre and onto stage two. Dylan
and Sara had a great stage with no problems and set the 4th quickest
time.
Stages 3- 5
went well, with the team placing 7th, 6th and 4th to be 5th overall
going into stage 6.
"We had
problems on stage six the 42 km stage. The car started to overheat
just after the 20 km mark so I drove the car slowly for about 4kms
to try to cool the car. It was in the twisty part of the stage,
so it was hard to drive slowly and the car wasn't cooling down,
as we needed big long straights to get some airflow. While nursing
the car and watching the temp gauge my concentration wasn't what
it should have been and we slid wide into a large slip in the middle
of the road damaging the front right sill and door."
Stages 7-8 the
team had no problem with two 3rd places; it was a fast race to the
finish.
"The last
stage was brilliant, as Bryan (my old co driver) will agree it starts
fast and ends with some of the best corners in the country. We set
the 3rd quickest time just 2 sec behind Marty and 10 seconds behind
Hawkeswood. It was a great way to end an up and down season with
a 4th overall in the rally."
"Thank
you so much to my team. Sara Warrington (soon to be Turner), Simon
Bell (Moonie), Bill Turner (Dad), Ian Tegg (Slave and our poor panel
beater), Sandy Basal (Team Doc) and Sean and Ronda Gray. A big thanks
to Dale and Maureen Perry, Blair Read and the whole team from RALLY
DRIVE NZ for their support over the year. Thanks to Len and Heather
Dillon for all our roads we borrow to test on. "
"I especially
would like to thanks our sponsors for 2004; Joanne Craig from Performance
Finance and Leasing Ltd, Alan and June Kemp from Kempy's (and Big
Mike), Garry Capper for the time he has spent tuning our car, it
goes so good thanks to him, LJ Hooker Manurewa, Quentin at Beaurepaires
Takanini, Glen at Dunlop New Zealand and Phil Small from Team EVO
Mitsubishi"
The Performance
Finance & Leasing /Turner Motorsport team have had more ups
than downs this year. They had a good start at the Otago Rally,
great fun in the snow at Southland (although we could have done
without the fire extinguisher powder), Rotorua we enjoyed the stages
but not the result, Hawkes Bay was a new experience with new roads
and Nelson was over before it started. The team has learnt so much,
and now looks forward to the challenge of 2005 with a wedding coming
and a new car.
See you 2005.
Til next time.
