Hi All
The Performance
Finance & Leasing /Turner Motorsport team of Dylan Turner and
Sara Turner finished 3rd at the 2005 Tokoroa Rally on the 24th September
2005.
The event was
based in Tokoroa and ran in the forest on each side of the town
with 150km of special stages and central service park in the Tokoroa
Sports Ground.
Starting the
event 5th on the road, the Performance Finance & Leasing /Turner
Motorsport Evo 6 were in a good spot to watch their main competitors
for the day.
Special Stage
1 was a fast 16km test which caught out the Evo 5 of Jeff Hill with
suspension damage.
"The corner
was a real hard one to read, it was a fast 6R over a crest then
80M and the 4L. Marty had gone in there but had got away with it.
Then Jeff went in and we came along and nearly parked on top of
him. We were really lucky and got out ok and carried on to finished
the stage 5th"
Special Stage
2 didn't start well, with the timing crew on the start noticing
a flat rear left tyre as the countdown began, Turner made a choice
to do the stage on the flat tyre, losing 1 minute to his rivals.
"We had
to make a choice pretty quickly and decided it takes about 2mins
to change the tyre so we would run the stage on the flat. It only
cost us a minute and dropped us back to 8th overall, so it was a
good choice. The Dunlop tyre held together over the 13km, a real
tribute to the strength of the casing", explains Turner.
Going into the
long 45km Special Stage 5 the Performance Finance & Leasing
/Turner Motorsport team were sitting in 6th overall and with a good
run through the long stage they got themselves up to 4th equal with
Brent Taylor, only to be moved up a place when Marty Roestenburg's
turbo failed.
The following
3 stages went well for the team. They consolidated their 3rd place
and won the final 7th stage.
"I would
like to thank Sara for her great work with the notes, being back
in the car for her first rally with me again this year. Also thanks
to Ian and Dad for servicing on the day and thanks to Gary Capper
for his work on the car before the event."
"Congratulations
to Dean Sumner for his first win and my commiserations to Marty
and Jeff Hill, both unlucky to not finish" says Turner.
The team would
like to thank our sponsors for 2005 - Performance Finance and Leasing,
LJ Hooker Manurewa, AB Panel and Paint, Team Evolution, Dunlop,
Gary Capper Performance and Chiropractic and Sport.
Til next time.
