The
Terrors on Tarmac
Stage
1
Sunny
morning, and a fantastic day to be racingon fast tarmac stages.
2 min before we were due to start the stage, the sun started to
come up over Mt Taranaki, and the stage was running directly into
the sun. As a consequence we overshoot the junction in the middle
of the stage. We just couldn't see a thing. Last year on the the
same stage we did 5min 44sec and it was in heavy rain. This year
due to the sunstrike, we came through in a 6min 04sec to be 35th
o/a.
Stage

Still
a little nervous but at least the sunstrike was gone. Only problem
was we had warped our rotors on the tight finish on stage 1, and
the brakes were vibrating badly. These aside, we were still having
heaps of fun, thee were plenty of crests and ultra fast straights
to keep me on my toes.
Stage
3 - 13
Best
of the day. I love this stage, 31km of twisting terror up on the
slopes of Mt Taranaki and back down again. 3km in and all was going
great, but just as we were about to attack the tight twisty sectoin
of the stage, the powersteering failed...what a time to fail.
We
could not fix the powersteering at service after stage 4 as we didn't
have enough time, so we could only hold about 15th to 20th overall
on stages 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 & 9.
Stage
10 we had a slight problem. We found another fence to go through
at about 135kph. It was lucky we got back on the road, as there
were spectators there to help us get going again. Amanda Carter
was on the spot to get two great shots of our excursion.

We
ended up finishing 42nd o/a. Not our best result but we had a ball.
I love the Taranaki Tarmac Rally.
