Rally
It
was sun...sun...sun. An Auckland Rally with a difference, and our
home event.
We
were very confident and rolling up to SS1 Aranui 1 we were set to
go. We started a little slow and untidy and set the 18th quickest
time.
SS2:
Aranui 2 and the same road as SS1. We had a more confident run through
and set the 14th quickest time, but we knew there was still room
for improvement. The car was handling great (we had raised the ride
height and softened the rebound, along with brand new Dunlop tyres)
and had no dramas, just a nice tidy run.
SS3:
It was time to charge hard, now or never was my approach, and we
nailed the stage. We were a little untidy at the beginning (but
it is hard not to be as the road was tight and rutted) but got a
good rhythm going towards the end of the stage. Our time was 5th
quickest, beating Wayne Parker (who finished the day 3rd o/a), Glen
Rosser (who finished the day 4th o/a), and Matthew Jensen (who finished
the day 5th o/a). So we were in the hunt for a top 5 finish.
SS4:
It was a short distance to the start of SS4, approx. 100m. We got
the countdown and I dropped the clutch to accelerate into the stage,
only to find the car bogged down and was down on power. We still
set a good time of 10o/a for the stage, but the car was not as quick.
At the end of the stage, and on closer inspection, we found we had
broken the up pipe to the turbo, so the car wasn't boosting up,
and as a consequence, we were way down on power.
SS5
& SS6: We set the 9th and 10th quickest times.
Service
Break: We didn't have enough time to fix the up-pipe, so it was
off to the afternoon stages with a very underpowered car.
Our
stage times suffered as a result. SS7 15th, SS8 9th, SS9, 10th,
SS10 14th, SS11 11th, and SS12 11th.
We
lost 3rd in class by 1.2secs so we were gutted but held on to finish
in the top ten with a 10th o/a. Full results can be found here

team now look forward to the Rally of the North. For more info click
